Product Distribution User Guide

Introduction

The Product Distribution Layer (PDL) is a USGS platform for exchanging information about seismic events such as earthquakes and landslides. It provides a standard method for bundling textual and multimedia data into a package called a product.

The PDL focuses on distribution and triggering, and integrates with other systems for processing. After a product is created it is sent to the PDL for distribution. The PDL creates a notification that is sent to clients. Clients receive notifications about products and may choose to process a product.

The PDL provides two primary alternatives for processing products: a Java API for direct integration, and a command line API for applications to be executed when products are received.

User Guide

The user guide provides documentation for obtaining, installing, configuring, and running the PDL Client. Previous versions of the user guide are made available on a best-effort basis, however some links and other references may not be accurate in the older versions.

Developer Reference

Developer reference materials are only available for the current version of PDL.
